  • From Our Star Crew to Yours

Our team hails from game development, escape room design, software engineering, VFX, and immersive theatre.

We’re interested in the transformative potential of private immersive experiences, in how they allow us to explore parts of ourselves that we might have lost touch with, or never known.

Our mission is to remind people about the importance of playing pretend, and bring them back to the sheer joy of play.

Frequently
Asked Questions

  • Star Crew is a next-generation immersive escape room experience, where you and your team become the crew of a living starship, the CLIO. You’ll take on one of six unique crew roles to solve challenges, and complete your mission. Unlike other escape rooms, Star Crew blends real time flight simulation, interactive characters, and a living, breathing world into a cinematic adventure.

Star Crew is currently in Beta. This means that you will be playing the full experience, but without a strict time limit. This gives us the chance to study how long each portion of the experience takes to complete, and thus experiment with the difficulty settings.

  • Each player chooses a unique crew role. Every role has its own puzzles, responsibilities, and ways to contribute to the mission:

    • Captain – Leads the team, makes final calls, and keeps the mission on track

    • Pilot – Sets the course, and steers the CLIO through dangerous space hazards

    • Engineering – Keeps the ship running and repairs critical systems

    • Science – Analyses data, translates languages, and deciphers mysteries

    • Tactical – Monitors threats, mans the weapons, and makes strategic choices

    • Intel – Handles signals and incoming transmissions

No role is more important than another – success depends on collaboration.

  • During Beta, there is no strict time limit – you can play through at your own pace. When Star Crew officially launches, missions will run for 75 minutes. Time for briefing and debrief making time slots a total of 90 minutes long).

  • Star Crew is designed for 2–6 players. With six roles to fill, the sweet spot is 5 or 6 – but smaller crews can still complete the mission if they’re up for a little extra challenge!

  • Additional crew members can join for a flat fee of $60 per player, up to a maximum of 6 people per group. Additional crew cannot be added above this limit (CLIO’s bridge is only so big!) We can process payment on site.

  • Star Crew is recommended for ages 13 and up due to story complexity and mature themes.

  • The game involves reading text and listening to dialogue in English. You do not have to be fluent in English, but we recommend an IELTS band score of 6 or higher to fully enjoy the experience. (If you understand this website without assistance, you'll be fine.)

  • Yes! We provide Star Crew uniforms to help immerse you in your role. Costumes are completely optional – you’re welcome to play in your own clothing if you prefer.

  • Wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes. You don't need to bring anything with you – just an adventurous spirit. Anything you do bring can be securely stored until you are ready to leave.

  • Star Crew is less physically demanding than many escape rooms. You will not need to crawl or climb. The only physical barrier to play is the flight of stairs at our entrance. Sadly, the building does not accomodate wheelchair access to our floor.

  • Star Crew is a sci-fi adventure with moments of tension and mild peril. The experience may include:

    • Flashing lights and loud sound effects

    • Story elements involving military conflict

It is not intended to be a scary game, but may be intense for some players.

  • If you need to reschedule or cancel your session 48 hours or more prior to your booking time, please send us an email and we'll help arrange it for you. Unfortunately we cannot offer a refund or rescheduling less than 48 hours prior to your session time due to staffing limitations.

  • Star Crew is a live ticketed event, and as such your session will start at the time you've booked your ticket for – so please make sure you arrive on time to get the most out of your experience. If you are more than 15 minutes late, your session will be cancelled without a refund.

  • We recommend taking public transport to the venue, as there is a huge array of options available. We are located at Level 1, 133 Church Street, Richmond. Earthrise One is right next to the 78 tram stop, or alternatively a 5 to 15 minute walk from the 75, 48, 109 and 12 tram stops, as well as West Richmond and North Richmond station. Free 2 hour street parking is available nearby for those arriving by car.
